======================================================
2Just
as has been written in (Isaiah*) the prophet, ('Behold! I am
commissioning my messenger before your face, who will furnish
your way. 3'a
voice of one crying out in the desert: 'make ready the way of
the Master, make His path straight. {Isaiah
40:3}'') 4John
came to be the one baptising in the desert and proclaiming
(the*) baptism of repentance unto an absolution of sins, 5and
all the region of Judea and the Jerusalemites went out to him
and were baptised by him in the Jordan river, owning up to their
sins. 6And
John was outfitted with camel hair and a leather waistband
around his loin and was eating locusts and wild honey. 7And
he was proclaiming, saying: "The one stronger than me is
coming behind me, whose sandal strap I am not enough to
loosen bending down. 8I baptise you in water, but he will baptise
you in holy spirit."
9And
it came to be in those days, that Jesus went from Nazareth of
Galilee, and was baptised by John in the Jordan, 10and
straight on ascending [out of / over] the water, he perceived
the heavens rending and the spirit descended as a dove [into /
upon] him, 11and
out of the heavens came to be a voice: "You are my son, the
beloved, of whom I have approved." 12And
straight away, the spirit propelled him into the desert, 13and
he was in the desert forty days, being tried by Satan, and he
was with the wild animals, and the messengers attended to him.
