1-2Forasmuch
as many undertook to compile a narrative about the acts having been
accomplished among us, just as they who, having come to be eyewitnesses
and servants of the enunciation from the beginning, handed over to us, 3-4
it seemed {good} also to me, having pursued all things from above
thoroughly, to write to you sequentially, most excellent Theophile,
that you would recognise the sureness of the enunciations about which
you have been informed.
5In
the days of Herodes (the*) King of Yehudah, there came
to be some
priest named Zakar'yah out of shift of Ab'yah and (the*) woman of him
was out of the daughters of Aharon and the name of her was Eli'shabat. 6-7Moreover,
they both were
being righteous in the sight of the God, going about their
lives blamelessly in all the commandments and righteous judgements of
the master, and there was
not being for them a child forasmuch as the Eli'shabat was being
barren and both were being having gotten on in the years of them.
8It
came to be moreover, in his performing sacred duties in the proceeding
of the shift of him before the God 9that,
according to the custom of the priesthood, he got by lot, having entered
into the temple of the Master, to offer incense, 10and
all the multitude of the people was praying outside at the hour of
incense. 11Moreover, Master's
messenger was made visible to him, having stood out of the right side of the
altar of incense, 12so,
catching the sight Zakar'yah was agitated and fear fell upon him. 13The
messenger moreover said to him: 'Be not fearing Zakar'yah , because your
supplication was given attention, and your woman Eli'shabat will give
birth to a son to you, and you will call his name Yeho'hanan, 14-15and
there shall be joy for you, and jubilation, and many will be rejoiced over
his birth for he shall be great in the sight of the master, and wine and
alcohol, no, he not should drink, and of holy spirit he will be filled
still out of his mother's womb. 16And
many of the sons of Yishra'el he will turn back over to Master, their God, 17and
him, he will go ahead in sight of Him in El'yah's spirit and power, to
turn back fathers' hearts over to children, and incredulous ones in
thoughtfulness of righteous ones, to make ready for Master people having
been equipped." 18And Zakar'yah
said toward the messenger: "down to what will I get to
know that? For I am being old and the woman of me she having gotten on in
the years of her." 19And
answering, the messenger said to him: "I am Gabri'el the one having
stood by in sight of God, and I was commissioned to speak to you, and to
declare these good messages to you. 20And
lo and behold! You shall be mute and not able to speak until which day of
these things should come because of which, these enunciations of me, you
believed not, which will be fulfilled in the due time of them."
21And
the people were anticipating Zakar'yah and they were wondering at the
lingering of him in the temple, 22on coming out
moreover, he was not able to speak to them and they recognised that he had seen
a vision in the temple and he was gesturing to them and he was continuing
mute. 23And
it came to be, as were being fulfilled the days of the ministry of him, he
went away to the house of him. 24Moreover,
after these days, Eli'shabat the woman of him conceived and she was hiding
herself five months saying 25"Thus to me have designed Master in days
{in} which he regarded to take away [the]
discredit of me among humans".
26Moreover
in the sixth month, the messenger Gabri'el was commissioned [by / from]
God into a city of Galilaia, which name is Nazaret, 27toward
a virgin having been engaged to a man whose name was Yoseph, out of the
house of David; and
the name of the virgin was Mariam. 28And
entering, toward her, (the messenger*) said: "Rejoice, she that
has been Graced, Master is with you (you blessed
among women*)". 29Moreover,
(catching the sight,*) she was startled over [the / his] enunciation, and
she was pondering what sort of greeting this could be. 30And
the messenger said to her: "be not you fearing Mariam, for you found
grace beside God 31and lo and behold!
you will conceive in womb, and you will give birth to a son, and you will call
his name Jesus. 32This one shall be
great, and Son of the Most High he will be called, and Master God will give him
the throne of David his father, 33and he will reign
over the house of Jacob into eternity, and of his kingship, there shall be no
end". 34Moreover
Mariam said to the messenger: "How shall that be, since I am no
knowing a man?" 35So,
answering, the messenger said to her: 'Holy Spirit will come upon you, and
power of the Most-High will overshadow you, hence The one born holy (out
of you*) will be called Son of God. 36And
lo-and-behold! Elishabat the kinswoman of you: she has conceived a son in
the old age of her, and this month is to her the sixth, the being called
barren, 37because
all utterance with God will not be impracticable.' 38So
Mariam said: 'Lo-and-behold! The servant girl of Master. May it come to be
to me down to the utterance of you'. And The Messenger went away from her.
39Arising
then in these days, Mariam went her way into the mountainous region with
haste, into a city of Y'hudah, 40and
she entered into the house of Z'khar'yah, and she greeted Eli'shabbat. 41And
it came to be, as Eli'shabbat heard the greeting of Mariam, the baby in
the womb of her leaped, and Eli'shabbat was filled of holy spirit, 42and
she exclaimed a great clamour, and she said: 'you having been blessed
among women, and the fruit of womb of you having been blessed!! 43And
whence this at me from that the mother of the Sovereign of me would come
toward me? 44For
lo-and-behold! As the voice of your greeting came into my ears, the baby
leaped in jubilation in my womb. 45And
blissful the one having believed, because there shall be an accomplishment
of what has been spoken to her by Master.'
46And
Mariam said: "the soul of me magnifies the Master, 47and
the spirit of me jubilates over the God the Saviour of me 48because
He looked upon the lowliness of the servant girl of him, for lo and
behold! from now on, all generations will count me blissful 49because
the powerful One designed for me great things and holy is the name of Him,
50and the mercy of
Him is to generations [to generations / generations'] to those fearing
him.
